This is an exhibit of works that I felt were creepy and strange. Demons, devils, and monsters are my favorite things to look at in art. I think that artists really express their talent and creativity in a piece with monsters (or other creepy creatures) because the image can come entirely from the imagination.
However, I also love works depicting creepy creatures who have an established image. It is interesting to see the monsters that have been created by different cultures. It seems that there are aspects of monsters that are basically universal. But it’s also interesting to see how the idea of what is fearsome can change depending on the time and place.
Even among people of the same culture, we don’t all find the same things creepy. I think that art is a great way to express one’s deepest fears, and monsters can personify what we fear.
