Join SCMA staff and Smith College faculty for a conversation about Beyond the Floating World: Viewing Japanese Prints with Smith Faculty, an exhibition shaped by interdisciplinary collaboration. Featured faculty are Marnie Anderson, Barbara Richmond ’40 Professor in the Social Sciences and Professor of History; Yanlong Guo, Priscilla Paine Van der Poel Associate Professor of Art; Elizabeth Jamieson, Professor of Chemistry; Kim Kono, Chair of East Asian Languages & Cultures and Professor of Japanese Language & Literature; and Sujane Wu, Professor of Chinese Language & Literature.

Inspired by a 2025 faculty convening centered on SCMA's Japanese prints collection, the exhibition reflects the museum's ongoing commitment to collaboration and teaching across disciplines. Through their selections and interpretations, the faculty co-curators invite visitors to look beyond traditional narratives and discover new ways of engaging with Japanese woodblock prints.
