November Second Friday: Light
SCMA is free and open to all.
Join us from 4–8 p.m. for an evening of art, making, and community at the Smith College Museum of Art. Galleries are open until 8 p.m.
From 4–7 p.m.
Drop in for hands-on art making in the Boeckman Sculpture Court (Museum Atrium)! All ages welcome. Explore how artists express themselves in the round, inspired by the paintings of Alma Thomas, Torkwase Dyson, and Kelly Wang on view in the museum. Paint and collage your own circular compositions using vibrant dashes and iridescent layers of color that evoke the sky and sea.
From 5:30–6.pm.
For one night only, step inside Markaba, a sculpture by Younes Rahmoun, one of Morocco’s foremost contemporary artists. Before you enter, Lucy Montgomery will introduce the artwork, exploring Rahmoun’s approach to light and the role of drawing in his creative process.
The experience takes place in SCMA’s lower level gallery, with staff on hand to guide and assist you. Entry into the sculpture may require careful crouching and ducking.
