Welcome Grace Sinclair, Our New Marketing & Communications Assistant

Hello, I’m Grace Sinclair, and I’m excited to join the Smith College Museum of Art as the new Post-Baccalaureate Assistant in Marketing and Communications. I am starting this position alongside two other Post‐Baccalaureates, Curatorial Assistant Lucy Montgomery, and Assistant Museum Educator Lilly Watson, and am looking forward to working with them.

I am also a mixed media artist who creates immersive artworks that explore the emotional and physiological reactions we, as humans, have to nature and living organisms. The strength of nature is both humbling and restorative, I seek to capture that connection in my work while inspiring advocacy for the care of our planet.

This passion translated into my professional career when I began working at Beacon Climate Innovations. Beacon Climate works creatively and effectively to bring climate plans and innovations into action. With a BFA in Film/Video and a minor in sustainability, I was drawn to their work through my studies and curious about how I might contribute artistically, which led me to a role in marketing and storytelling. I promoted important work and created logos, graphics, and website designs that made that information more accessible. I value my time there immensely.

As a college student, I worked at the MassArt Art Museum (MA’AM). The MA’AM is a free contemporary art museum that exhibits fresh and new perspectives. Part of my role was working as an event planner for the museum. There I had the opportunity to present one of my short films, The Garden Floor, which was projected alongside live music during the museum’s after-hours event “A Night Under the Stars with MAAM.” My most compelling takeaway from my time there was how remarkable it was to work in an environment where art and creativity are the focus and deeply respected.

Always a source of inspiration, museums and galleries continue to be a haven of creativity for me. I always leave them energized with plans to make something new and exciting. I deeply value the work and ideas museums cultivate. Inspiration is integral to moving forward both creatively and professionally.

At SCMA, this assistantship is an exciting opportunity to continue working in communications, collaborate with industry professionals, and grow in a wonderful environment. The Smith College Museum of Art offers so much, and I’m excited to keep learning from and being inspired by this profound institution.
