Open to all Smith students. All materials provided. No experience needed.
Discover the vibrant world of punch needle embroidery! Inspired by painter Alma Thomas’s bold, rhythmic art, you’ll transform colorful yarn into striking textured textile art.
What You'll Do:
- Hands-on making: Learn punch needle basics, from preparing your frame to crafting essential stitches.
- Design with Rhythm: Translate Alma Thomas’s iconic color and abstraction into your own custom fiber art piece.
- Play with Texture: Sculpt a dynamic range of textures to make your artwork pop.
- Take it Home: Complete a small-scale textile piece or a work-in-progress and leave with a set of materials to keep creating!

About the Artist
Haley Wood is a fiber artist living in Cambridge, Ma. She has shown her work at the Abigail Ogilvy Gallery in Los Angeles and Boston, the MassArt Auction, and the SPRING/BREAK Art Fair in Manhattan. She holds a BFA in Fibers from Massachusetts College of Art & Design. She has received the Mass Cultural Council Grant for Creative Individuals, MassArt Milestone Grant, Marilyn Pappas Award, and the Barbara L. Kuhlman Award.
