January Second Friday
Join us from 4–8pm for an evening of art, making, and community at the Smith College Museum of Art. Galleries are open until 8pm. SCMA is free and open to all!
From 4–7pm Drop in for hands-on art making in the museum atrium All ages welcome.
Craft your own container to hold something precious, inspired by the woven baskets, lacquer boxes, and ceramic vessels on view in Crafting Worlds: Japanese Decorative Arts from the 18th through 21st Centuries.
Play a memory game featuring Japanese ceramics in the SCMA collection, and then go on a scavenger hunt to find these works in the galleries.
From 4–7:30pm on the Lower Level, learn more about the materials and techniques in Crafting Worlds: Japanese Decorative Arts from the 18th through 21st Centuries with Curator Clara Ma. Drop in for a guided exploration of materials with objects you can touch. All ages welcome.
Due to their delicate nature, we kindly ask that all objects be handled with clean hands. Hand wipes will be available in the gallery. Thank you for helping us preserve these items for future use.
From 4–8pm Come in from the cold and discover art throughout the museum.
This Second Friday choose a single painting at SCMA and spend 10 minutes of uninterrupted time with it. In a world that moves fast, we invite you to slow down, notice more, see differently, and connect deeply with art (and yourself).
