September Second Friday
Experience Second Friday alive with music and color.
Join us from 4–8 p.m. for an evening of art, making, and community at the Smith College Museum of Art.
Galleries are open until 8 p.m. SCMA is free and open to all.
From 4–7 p.m. Drop in for hands-on art making in the Boeckman Sculpture Court (Museum Atrium)! All ages welcome.
Artists like Alma Thomas often worked on their artistic compositions to the tunes of their favorite musicians. Immerse yourself in the creative process as you listen to the rich music soundtracks that directly inspired her art and its unique visual rhythm. In this drop-in artmaking activity, we invite you to repeat elements like line, shape, and colors with varied spacing in the form of a ripped paper collage.
From 4–7:30 p.m.
Help us build our next display! Flock to the Cunningham Center to Birds of a Feather: The Pop-up to vote for your favorite bird-themed artworks from the SCMA collection. The community’s top choices will go on view this fall in a final installation in the Cunningham Corridor.
From 5–7 p.m.
Drop-in film screening of the documentary short "Miss Alma Thomas: A Life in Color" (20 minutes, 2021). The film will be playing in a continuous loop from 5–7 p.m. in Graham Hall.
Live Jazz
