Tryon Prize for Writing
A jury awards monetary prizes to current Smith students for outstanding writing related to art at the Smith College Museum of Art. Writing may take any form, including a thesis, essay or poem.
Submission Guidelines:

Include a cover sheet with your name, class year, campus address, email and phone number. Submissions are judged anonymously; do not include your name in your submission materials.

If the work was written for a class, include the description of the assignment.

Format your submission as a Word document (docx), using your last name as the file name.

Send submissions to museduc@smith.edu with subject: “Tryon Prize for Writing.”
Tryon Prize for Art
A jury awards monetary prizes for installation, performance, video, sound, digital, internet and interactive art. (Photography is not eligible.) Jurors seek a high level of artistic expression and presentation.
Submission Guidelines:

You may enter only one work.

Document the work with up to 5 images (jpg) and/or up to 5 minutes of video or audio.

Include a cover sheet with your name, class year, campus address, email, phone number and title of work.

Include an artist statement describing the concept and development of the work and note if it was influenced by art seen at SCMA. Format the statement as a Word document (docx) with 1.5 line spacing.

If the work was created for a class, include a description of the assignment.

Send submissions to museduc@smith.edu with subject: “Tryon Prize for Art.”
Deadline: Friday, May 1, 2020 (received by midnight)

The Tryon Prizes are named for painter Dwight W. Tryon, professor of art at Smith
College from 1886 to 1923 and SCMA benefactor.
