Temporarily Ours: Contemporary Photography and Film

January 24–June 1, 2025
"Temporarily Ours" features eight contemporary artists working in Cuba, Iran, Pakistan, Palestine, and the United States. Through photography and film, each artist reveals some of the innovative ways communities have maintained a sense of belonging in the face of adversity.

Artful adventures in and around the museum for 2–5 year-olds and their caregivers! Explore a different theme in each session on selected Fridays throughout the year.

Registered families can join us in the Atrium of the Smith College Museum of Art for open play and art experiences from 9:30–11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, sign up for a museum tour slot for 9:45, 10:15, or 10:45 a.m.

December 13 Second Friday

Join us for an evening of art, making, and community at the December 13 Second Friday at the Smith College Museum of Art! SCMA is free and open to all. 

From 4–7pm, Hands-on! Art making for all ages, inspired by works on view. Slow down, clear your mind, relax and be present through mindful drawing activities designed to destress and encourage creativity, inspired by the special exhibition Younes Rahmoun: Here, Now and second floor installation Thinking through Drawing. Light refreshments in the atrium.

From 4–8pm, explore and enjoy four floors of art!

November 8 Second Friday

SCMA is free and open to all.

Join us for an evening of fun at the November 8  Second Friday! 

From 4–7pm: Hands-on! Art making for all ages, inspired by works on view. Experiment with the collagraph printmaking process using found materials of different textures. Plan out, glue down to cardboard and then print from a composition of flat simple shapes inspired by Cubist art in SCMA’s collection, like Pablo Picasso’s 1919 painting Table, Guitar and Bottle found on the third floor.

From 4–8pm Explore and enjoy four floors of art!

September 13 Second Friday

Join us for an evening of fun at the September 13 Second Friday! SCMA is free and open to all.

From 4–7pm, participate in Hands-on! Art making for all ages inspired by Younes Rahmoun’s site-specific work Mountain-Stone-Earth #15 (Jabal-Hajar-Turab #15). Light refreshments will be served.

From 4–8pm, enjoy a museum full of art!
