From 4–7pm: Hands-on! Art making for all ages, inspired by works on view. Design and draw your own special place inspired by architectural forms in Younes Rahmoun’s Ghorfa series, in Hubert Robert’s Pyramids, and in Lilly Martin Spencer’s painting Reading the Legend.

diaspora communities in the U.S., celebrate the Lunar New Year, the beginning of a new year on
the lunisolar calendar. How do people use this calendar to measure time? And in Chinese art,
how does artwork tell us about Chinese perception of the movement of the universe?

Registered families can join us in the Atrium of the Smith College Museum of Art for open play and art experiences from 9:30–11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, sign up for a museum tour slot for 9:45, 10:15, or 10:45 a.m.

Use stamps and collage materials to create an artistic representation of a loved one or of yourself in the form of valentine or mini-portrait to gift, inspired by fascinating faces on view on the second and third floor permanent collection galleries.
4–8pm Explore and enjoy four floors of art!
Yarra Berger is a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in the History of Art and Architecture. Her research focuses on organized labor, decolonial movements, and identity formation in 19th to early 20th century American art and visual culture.
Z Stevens, 25J, is an English Major and a Museum Concentrator. They are the student Collections Assistant.
A museum’s collection comes with an archive of information surrounding it. And for just over one whole calendar year, I, Z Stevens, have had the financial and source information of the entire SCMA collection at my mercy!
That might be a slight exaggeration.
