Introducing SCMA’s IFPDA Intern

Aprile Gallant is the Associate Director of Curatorial Affairs and Senior Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs.

We’re pleased to be joined this summer by Nicole Viglini (Smith College class of 2004J), who will be working in the Cunningham Center this summer as the IFPDA Intern. Generously funded with a grant from the International Fine Print Dealer’s Association, this 10-week internship is designed to support the study and knowledge of prints through hands-on experiences in Museums.

During her time at SCMA, Nicole will be assisting in cataloguing and researching the vast collection of prints and other works on paper in the Gladys Engel Lang and Kurt Lang Collection. The core of the Lang Collection—more than 1,400 objects in all—is related to issues discussed in the Lang’s book Etched in Memory: The Building and Survival of Artistic Reputation, and is primarily focused on the painter-etcher movement between the 1860s and World War II.

Nicole majored in philosophy at Smith, and is now pursuing graduate studies in United States history at San Jose State University in California. Before returning to school, she worked in art preservation and display at various firms and museums in New York and San Francisco. In the future, she hopes to curate exhibits at a museum or historical society, incorporating a multi-disciplinary approach.
