February Student Picks: Moments of Being by Claire Rand, class of 2020
Rand's statement: I chose the pieces within this show based on instinct and intuition. Something in me resonated with the feeling, emotion, or sense of each work, and I was able to recognize something familiar from my own lived experience in the faces of the individuals portrayed here. Each work references and encapsulates a moment in time, a feeling or state of being, that despite different lives, cultures and histories, is completely human. Through this curation, my intention is to create a space for the cultivation of empathy, and I invite you to engage with the subjects more intuitively than intellectually. This is a show centering that which makes up life itself, the being of the human experience – every day moments that shape us, whether we recognize them or not.
