Working in Museums celebrates the legacy of dedicated Smithies who have made their mark on museums throughout the past century.  Over two days, a diverse group of current alums will speak candidly about their personal motivations and professional goals to move museums forward.

Based in Chicago, Amanda Williams is a distinguished visual artist whose creative practice employs color as a way to draw attention to the political complexities of race, place and value in cities. Her installations, paintings and works on paper seek to inspire new ways of looking at the familiar and in the process, raise questions about the state of urban space and citizenship in America. Williams launched SCMA’s Artist-in-Residence Program in summer 2019.

Free Opening Weekend for Black Refractions

We will be celebrating the opening weekend of Black Refractions: Highlights from The Studio Museum in Harlem by offering free admission all weekend, January 17–19, 2020.

The opening weekend will also feature our annual Free Community Day on January 18 (details below)
